CFG-FD. Jacob MALTBY, b. Nov. 11, 1776 (Benj.4, Dan.3, Dan.2, Wm.1). Mrs. J. A. Thompson of Owosso, Michigan, a grand-daughter of Jacob, wrote:--"I found the family register in an old diary of Uncle Hiram's. His wife was born in Litchfield, Conn., he was in Vermont. (viz)

"Jacob Maltby. b. Nov. 11th 1776, m. Jan. 3, 1803. He died Mar. 4, 1864. Sally was b. Dec.24, 1783; d. May 1, 1859."

Note. The Winchester, Conn. Church Record has the following: "m. Jan. 3, 1803--Maltby of Norfolk, and Sally Kiss of Winchester."

Jacob Maltby Record continued:

     "Children:
CFG-FDA. William Maltby, b. Jan. 8th 1804, d. Aug. 20, 1804, Norfolk,Ct.
CFG-FDB. Warren " " May 11, 1806; d. June 22, 1844.
CFG-FDC. Almira " " Aug. 13, 1809; d. Sept. 6, 1855.
CFG-FDd. Elisa " " May 25, 1811; d. don't know.
CFG-FDE. Hiram " b. Mar. 26, 1814; d. Mar. 2, 1889. No children.
CFG-FDF. Lorrin " b. Aug. 6, 1817; d. Apr. 20, 1820.
CFG-FDG. Lyman Charles Maltby, b. Apr. 15, 1820.
CFG-FDH. Philander " b. Jan. 20, 1825; d. 1825, Apr.20.
CFG-FDI. William Nelson " " Nov. 13, 1827."

Mrs. Tyler, also grand daughter of Jacob, has furnished us with a few notes:--

"Grandmother, Sally Keyes, was lame, a spare built, very prim person. She was a very fine needle woman and taught me to sew and knit. She was born in Litchfield, Connecticut. My grandparents came to Ohio sometime in 1820 or 1821.

My grandfather, Jacob, was a very quaint old man. When I look back to my childhood days I see him in the playhouse he built for my sister and myself, playing with us, entering into all our sports like a little one with us.

My mother was his idol and favorite daughter-in-law. My father's family were very proud and men of splendid habits. The old stock of Maltbys as far as I know, were men of the very best of habits."

An old silhouette of "Sally (Keyes) Maltbie" is printed on p. 337, Maltby-Maltbie Family, sent by Mrs. J.A. Thompson.

A "Local Hist. of Ashtabula Co., Ohio," states:--

"The father of Nelson Maltby" (William Nelson) "Jacob Maltby and his wife Sally, came from Norfolk, Conn., and settled in Geneva, Ohio, on Lot 5 Sub-Div. 4, being the same now occupied by Nelson Maltby."

A puzzling record sent me, "from Hist. of Ashtabula Co., Ohio," as follows: "Jacob Maltby died at Southington, Ohio, in 1835, aged 97; his father lived to be 88 and his mother to be 76 years of age." This statement would make Jacob's birth date 1738, which, obviously, is not correct.
